| Lying between
Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountains, ANCHORAGE is Alaska's largest city.
The city serves as Alaska's financial and transportation nucleus. Much of downtown
was destroyed by the 1964 earthquake when the north side of 4th Avenue sank 10
feet. Displays at Earthquake Park located west of downtown tell the story.
The Anchorage Museum of History and Art is definitely one of Alaska's finest
museums and worth a visit. Or visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center,
where costumed actors provide the visitors views of Native culture through dance
in a Native village setting. |
