| The enormous city
of Beijing's has a vast and sprawling population of twelve million in an
area where the city limits extend 80km or 50 miles. The Forbidden City,
with its amazing wealth of treasures and the solemn and respectful Tian'anmen
Square are both sights you will not want to miss. In the suburbs beyond, the
two Summer Palaces and the Western Hills have been favoured retreats
since imperial times. The Great Wall, one of the eight wonders of the world
was built to keep out invaders as well as to retain the inhabitants. Like a giant
dragon, it winds up and down across the terrain. Just outside Beijing, visitors
may climb a section of the Great Wall. |
