| During the Middle
Ages, BREMEN was a thriving seaport that traded in wine, salt and grains.
Today, the city still prospers from the port. Built in 1405, Bremen boasts a fine
Renaissance facade added to the original Gothic sturcture 200 years later. The
heart of Bremen known at the Alstadt, or old town is compact and full of character.
It lies by the River Weser and filled with green space and large squares filled
with flower and food markets and cafes. The city has handsome churches, fascinating
alleyways and on almost every other street, it seems, someone playing an accordion,
trombone or violin. Bremen is the home of Beck's beer. |
