| Located right in the
heart of the Rocky Mountains, BUTTE has some of the world's richest mineral
reserves. Because of that, copper, gold and silver mining thrived here during
the late 1800's. Located at the site of an early gold mine, the World Museum
of Mining displays and chonicles a superb collection of mineral specimens,
mining machinery and mementos of the town's heritage. Beside it, thirty historic
building from the period, recreate an early mining camp including a boarding house,
bordello, schoolhouse and church. High above the city, a statue of Our Lady
of the Rockies proudly symbolize it's strength and endurance. |
