CAMBRIDGE was founded when a group of religious scholars broke away from Oxford University after academic and religious disputes and they came here. Cambridge University has 31 colleges, the oldest being Peterhouse. Many of these older colleges have lovely gardens which back onto the River Cam. You can rent a punt (boat propelled by using a pole) and travel down the river to view them. Henry VI founded King's College in 1441 and its chapel is one of the most important examples of medieval English architecture. Not to be missed is the Fitzwilliam Museum which has exceptional, rare works of art including antiquities and manuscripts.
