| When people think
of CANNES they usually think of the many film festivals, especially the
International Film Festival that is held there each May. The annual festival is
held in the huge Palais des Festivals. However, there is much more to the
city than this glitzy event. The old town, known as Le Suquet is dominated
by the church of Notre-Dame de l'Espérance built in the 16th and
17th centuries in the Provençal Gothic style. A favorite sight to see is
Boulevard de la Croisette, the long stretch along the seafront that
is lined with palm trees. Luxury boutiques and hotels look out over the fine sandy
beaches. |
