| The commercial center
of CARDIFF is flanked by the River Taff, which flows past the mangnificient
new Millennium Stadium. Nearby is Cardiff Castle which began as a Roman
fort and was renovated in the 19th century by William Burges. The city's city
center is layed out around the Alexandra Gardens while the City Hall is
dominated by the huge dome and clock tower. The Crown Building now houses
the Welsh Office government affairs. To the south, the docklands are being transformed
by the creation of a marina and waterfront. Here the Pier Head Building,
contructed in 1896 is a reminder of the city's heyday. |
